The Old Smiddy Guest House

& Self Catering Bungalow, Laide

The Old Smiddy Guest House bed & breakfast and the self-catering Bungalow,  Laide, both provide excellent accommodation

and are situated in the North West Highlands of Scotland overlooking Gruinard Bay.

Loch Ewe, Inverewe Gardens, Gairloch and Ullapool are all within easy reach.

The owners of the Old Smiddy,  Julie and Julian,  gained 4 stars in Visit Scotland’s quality assurance scheme for B & B’s in their first year.

As a result we are members of Scotland’s Best B & B’s, an organisation limited to 96 of the best properties offering bed and breakfast in Scotland.

We strive to provide a genuine and warm welcome, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and the opportunity to enjoy the delights of the wonderful countryside of the Scottish North West Highlands.

Julie is  committed to serving  delicious,

high quality breakfasts and, if required, evening meals,  using local and regional produce wherever possible.

Each  year, we have added to and improved the facilities offered. The guest house is now equiped with Wifi.

This area of Wester Ross abounds in spectacular scenery and a wide variety of wildlife, as well as being rich in history,

both ancient and modern. The pages headed ‘A Week in Laide’ give suggestions for exploring the area around the Old Smiddy.

Laide and Mellon Udrigle, Aultbea and Loch Ewe, Gairloch, Inverewe Gardens and Ullapool are all  worthy of at least a days visit  Further information can be found on the sites of the two local tourists associations, namely Celtic Fringe and

Gale and Loch Ewe Action Forum.

The Bungalow, now the self catering, at the  Old Smiddy

was built about 1980 by a former owner of the Old Smiddy.

During the early part of 2009 it was completely renovated, modernised and redecorated.

This property now has a modern kitchen, a new family bathroom

and an ensuite shower room for the master bedroom.

Completely rewired, the Bungalow now enjoys central heating with the added bonus of solar tubes.

The renovations were completed by replacing all the

furniture and kitchen equipment with high quality, easy to use and comfortable products.
